Cookie dough ice cream revolutionaries, funding our basement build out and a new oven.

Jo & Je turned an ice cream obsession into a successful business. Now we're building an oven and freezer space to keep growing!

What started as a few casual conversations about how much we love ice cream and how ice cream was the favored family dessert growing up turned into an obsession and then a small business for us. We were a normal couple with day jobs and now we own a neighborhood ice cream shop.

We got hooked pretty soon after we first started experimenting with making ice cream, so we went to ice cream school at Penn State's Creamery almost 3 years ago. Later that year we started making a lot of ice cream at home when we installed professional ice cream equipment in our apartment (after selling our living room furniture to make room for it).

We sold from tricycles at street festivals in NYC to test different ideas and get feedback. When it was time to reclaim our home, we decided to open a shop near our apartment in Hell's Kitchen - initially we thought we would just have a walk up window style ice cream shop mainly dedicated to manufacturing, but the neighborhood seemed happy to welcome us so we've squeezed in locally roasted coffee and house made baked goods into our tiny shop.

Why We're on Smallknot

Being small business owners in our neighborhood makes us really love where we live. We want to maintain the small off-the-beaten path feel in the shop but still grow an ice cream brand because frankly, we think little individual ice cream cups of fantastic artisanal small batch ice cream paired with surprisingly delicious all natural cookie dough in the middle is just too good to keep to ourselves. We've been boot-strapping this venture on our own and we've been enjoying it but we need help! When we read Smallknot's motto "make you neighborhood awesome' we knew this was the right step for us..

As small business owners we've realized that there is always something that comes up...just when you think you are good to go for awhile, something breaks or you need more space or an upgrade of equipment...it never ends. For us right now we REALLY need to expand into our basement, and in order to do this we need to renovate it a bit and make it food-safe so that we can put freezers and some food storage down there. This will allow us to grow the catering & wholesale side of our ice cream biz. And for the loyal and growing following of our house made baked goods we REALLY need a bigger and better oven to turn out more consistent fresh baked daily goods!
