A local, regional specialty food hub for our community

We're growing our retail selection to bring you the best in local, specialty foods -- and want you to join us!

I opened up my little storefront on Stallings Road in February, and it's been so wonderful to see the support from the community and get to know so many of you since I opened up shop. I started baking while I was enrolled at Furman University and what started as just a hobby as turned into a business.

I started Cake Notice in February 2011, selling custom designer cakes that I made out of a shared space owned by a friend I knew from Furman. As the business grew, I first thought about opening up a kind of workshop/studio space, but since the shop is in such a great neighborhood, lots of folks in the neighborhood were interested in a retail store too. So now, in addition to our famous custom cakes, we sell fresh-roasted coffee from Leopard Forest Coffee in Traveler's Rest, SC, locally baked artisan breads from Hoot & Challah and Simple Gifts Artisan Bread, and, of course, our always rotating line of cupcake flavors!

I'm raising funds on Smallknot to build out a bigger retail space in the shop. I would love to be able to stock lots of locally sourced specialty foods that I don't make myself for the neighborhood, but in order to do that I'd need to have a lot more shelving, hire a carpenter, and get everything set up for bigger retail operations. I figure this will probably cost about $2,500, but since I just opened up the shop and there are so many things to fix and spruce up, it can be hard to put aside a lump sum for a new project like this.

That's why I thought it would be great to do something like this on Smallknot! Smallknot is a way to raise money directly from the community for projects at local independent businesses. Basically, if you help support my project, I'll pay you back in goods and services from the list of returns on the page. I'll send you gift boxes of cupcakes, make specialty flavors for you, or give you a great deal on one of my custom cakes! I thought this would be a fun way to connect with customers and the community while building something the community could really enjoy.

Here's how it works! Just pick a return from the list on the side and make your pledge. I've got 30 days to hit $2,500 -- but I have to raise the whole $2,500 in order to get the funding (and for you to get your return!) Just pledge your support, and after the goal is reached, you'll get your reward! Thanks so much for looking at my Smallknot project, and I hope I'll see you soon at Cake Notice!
